Library Services at GCTS Boston During COVID19

Due to the current COVID-Virus 19 pandemic, physical access to the Bruce Jackson Memorial Library at the Boston campus may be severely limited. (If the building is closed, then the library is closed).  For the latest information, please check the seminary’s website and your e-mail.

Return of Materials

  • Books can be returned on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and Thursdays from 4 to 6 PM.  (There will be no physical use of the library permitted including restrooms.)
  • Pre-registration is required. Send an e-mail to mthomas4@gordonconwell.edu with “Book Return” in the subject line. Please indicate when you can arrive at the CUME building. An e-mail will be sent back confirming your appointment time. An attached COVID-19 questionnaire will be sent with your confirmation e-mail. The questionnaire must be filled out and returned to the Library Director. If you fail to complete your questionnaire you will be verbally asked those questions upon entry into the building.
  • When you get to the CUME building, ring the buzzer.
  • The Library Director or his designee will open the door and take the books from the user.
  • Make sure that you have a mask on.
  • Immediately leave the building. Due to COVID restrictions you may not go any further into the building including using the restrooms.
  • The Library Director or his designee will immediately wipe down the books and place them on the book truck.
  • NOTE: If you have been exposed to COVID or are feeling sick, do not come into the building.

Checkout of Materials

  • Books can be picked up on Wednesdays from 2 to 4 PM and Thursdays from 4 to 6 PM. (There will be no physical use of the library permitted including restrooms.)
  • Pre-registration is required. Send an e-mail to mthomas4@gordonconwell.edu with “Book Checkout” in the subject line. Please indicate when you will be arriving at the CUME building. In the e-mail provide the following information:  Author, Title and Call Number and your student ID number. (You can check 5 books out at a time. 24-hours advance notice must be given) An e-mail will be sent back confirming your appointment.  An attached COVID-19 questionnaire will be sent with your confirmation e-mail. The questionnaire must be filled out and returned to the Library Director. If you fail to complete your questionnaire you will be verbally asked those questions upon entry into the building. EXCEPTION: Books that are required course texts (and are normally shelved in the Reserve Shelf) may not be checked out.
  • When you get to the CUME building, ring the buzzer.
  • Make sure that you have on a mask when you enter the building.
  • The Library Director or his designee will open the door and give you a plastic bag containing the requested material.
  • Upon receiving your library materials immediately leave the building. Due to COVID restrictions you may not go any further into the building including the use of restrooms.
  • NOTE: If you have been exposed to the COVID virus or are feeling sick, do not come into the building.

Available Library Resources

Reference
  • If a student needs a personal reference consultation via ZOOM, please e-mail a request to mthomas4@gordonconwell.edu. The Library Director will send a ZOOM invite back to the student.

  • If you have a reference questions while the library is closed, please send your question to mthomas4@gordonconwell.edu. The Library Director will be monitoring this e-mail address during normal regular library hours (Monday through Friday: 10 AM-6 PM.). Response time will be no more than 1 business day.    

Accessing the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
Access to Electronic Resources (e-Resources)
  • Access to e-books including DTL (Digital Theological Library) and full-texts of journal articles is available via the OPAC.

Accessing Boston Library Materials
  • At this time physical library usage is not permitted. Stay tune for procedures regarding the check-in and checkout of materials.

Accessing the Hamilton Campus Library
  • Access to physical books and journal articles is still available from the Goddard Library at the Hamilton campus. If you need a scan of a journal article and you know that the library owns the article, please e-mail: glibrary@gordonconwell.edu and supply the required citation. The library will scan the article and send it to your e-mail.

Accessing Your Library Account
  • Access to your library account (renewing of books) is available through the library’s website under the Account tab. Supply your username and Gordon-Conwell password and the system will display a list of your checked-out materials.  Renew the items and make sure that you sign out of the system.
