GenAI

Generative AI (GenAI) is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content and ideas, like text, images, music, and more. In theological research. Gen AI can be used to assist with tasks such as summarizing text, comparing theological perpectives or concepts, or organizing syllabi. Students are strongly advised to consult with your GCTS professor(s) before using GEN AI or other AI-related tools for your course assignments. The GCTS Student Handbook may also give direction on the use of these advanced tools at GCTS.

Here's a more detailed look at how GenAI applies to theological research:

1. Summarization and Synthesis: GenAI can quickly process and summarize vast amounts of theological texts, allowing researchers to quickly grasp the main arguments and ideas of various authors and schools of thought.

2. Content Creation: GenAI can be used to generate educational materials, such as interactive Bible studies, virtual reality experiences of biblical events, or even create new sermons.

3. Exploring Different Perspectives: GenAI can help explore different interpretations of biblical passages or theological concepts by generating alternative viewpoints or arguments.

4. Research and Discovery: GenAI can be used to assist in research by generating potential research questions, suggesting relevant sources, or summarizing scholarly articles.

5. Accessibility and Translation: GenAI can be used to translate theological texts into multiple languages, making them more accessible to a wider audience.

6. Ethical Considerations: GenAI raises important ethical questions about authorship, authenticity, and the nature of creativity, which are relevant for theological reflection.

7. Complementary Tool: GenAI is intended to be a tool that assists human researchers and theologians, not a replacement for them.

8. Bias and Reliability: It's crucial to be aware of potential biases in GenAI's training data and to critically evaluate the information it generates, especially when it comes to theological matters.
